As initiator of the Heartwalker Peace Project, Joe connects with others in numerous cities who share similar views on peace and violence. He is a volunteer for the Liberation Prison Project, teaching Buddhism to inmates.

Born in New York, Joe graduated from Hofstra University with an honors degree in Drama & Literature. He lived in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from 1987 to 2005, where the experience of integrating into a new culture helped to ground his personal and professional perspectives on international cooperation, economic integrity, and lasting peace.

Body

With a background in performance and movement, Joe has familiarized himself with various forms of bodywork he uses to design exercises that he integrates into his programs and coaching for the benefit of clients. These include yoga, Taoist principles, fencing, biomechanics, Alexander technique, Linklater voice technique, martial arts, and various forms of traditional sports and fitness training.

He is a certified massage therapist on various techniques including Swedish, Esalen, Acupressure, and Conscious Breathing. His work also includes ancient techniques that explore the subtle energies of the body and the healing properties of intimate contact, touch, and movement.

Joe has been practicing Tai Chi since 1986 and incorporates other martial art forms into his work.

Mind and Spirit

Joe has been practicing and studying Tibetan Buddhism and other Eastern philosophies since 1994. His study of various meditation techniques has allowed him to develop methods that incorporate mindfulness, inner peace, compassion, and inclusiveness into his daily life and his programs.

International Theatre

Joe has taught and coached professional actors and presenters internationally. He started a number of theatre companies, theatre schools, international seminars, and forums, including the Joe Weston Studio. Joe views acting as 'the science of human behavior' – the exploration of the deeper motivations and emotions behind our actions, our cultural urges, and relationships. Acting is also about becoming skillful in identifying and solving conflicts, a perspective that helped to inform his work in Respectful Confrontation.
